Early Morning Breakfast
| Description |
: |
Almost all of our meals were cooked over a fire by Nepalis living in houses/lodges along the trail. Everyone is usually up between 5-5:30am, the best time to get on the road. My most usual breakfast by the end of the trek was probably a bowl of muesli with hot milk, sometimes with a pair of boiled eggs of an omlette. Food prices skyrocket as you climb higher, as many items are carried in by porters, a trip which takes mutliple days.
The woman working in this lodge gave us a tip on how to avoid the Maoist checkpoint only 5 minutes down the trail by taking the right path at the split, the old trail down to the river. Quietly we snuck out of Bhandar in the morning and successfully avoided having to pay a 5000 rupee ($75) tax/bribe to the revolutionary militant group.
