10.11.04 - Drove to Meridian, Mississippi. Stayed with Elaine and Duane Maust (Nathan's parents). Had two wonderful meals and a very relaxing night of rest.
10.12.04 - AM drove to New Orleans, and spent several hours exploring. Drove west and camped overnight along the Gulf south of Lafayette. Watched the sunset accross the water. Talked to Butch and Dawn at the local grocery/marina and bought 3lbs of shrimp for dinner.
10.13.04 - Drove to San Antonio and stayed overnight at a Catholic Worker House.
10.14.04 - AM explored downtown San Antonio and the Alamo. PM Drove two hours to Loredo and crossed border, first by car and then drove back to U.S. and walked across. Said goodbye to Josh and found overnight bus to Mexico City
10.15.04 - Arrived in Mexico City and took Metro to Victor and Ofelia Pedrosa's house. Spent afternoon exploring downtown around the Zocolo.
10.16.04 - Awoke late and spent day in Bosque Chapultepec.
10.17.04 - Helped set up for church, and worshiped with the Peubla en Transformacion congregation (Victor and Oflia's church). Went downtown to the Plaza Coyoacan with Gustavo. Lots of hippies, street vendors, and alternative culture.
10.18.04 - Helped to paint the church/porch in the morning, spent the late afternoon attempting to hike Agusco Picacho. We decided to turn around at dusk as trail was fading with the daylight. We said goodbye to the Pedrozas and moved to Dan and Sarah Moncayo's house near the University of Mexico City. We spent the evening getting to know them, writing emails, and went to bed late.
10.19.04 - With Dan & Sarah & Dan & Sarah: Went bouldering at the University, played frisbee, returned home, learned to crochet, talked with Dan about the appropriate Christian interactions in politics, stayed up late working on hat and talking with Sarah
10.20.04 - Spent morning with Sarah and Dan. After lunch and time of prayer with them, we took the metro to the Basilica de Guadalupe. Explored for about an hour and then took bus to Robert and Bonnie Stevenson's house NW of the city. Had a delicious meal and slept at our very own house across the street.
10.21.04 - Had breakfast with the Stevenson's and then visited their church, Monte Maria. Got a tour, and were prayed over by about 250 women. Afterwards left for Teotihuacan with Joanna and Corral, two young ladies from the church. Explored the ruins, had dinner, and returned back to the Stevenson's.
10.22.04 - worked on computer at Stevensons, headed out on bus towards Apan, talked to Marie on bus, arrived in Apan much Iater than expected in the dark, walked on to the wrong ranch and met a guy on a horse, walked into town and met the Lucio family (Miguel, Katrin, & others), talked to them as they drove us to Calpulalpan to see if we could camp outside the police station/palace, offered us to sleep in their camionetta, thief stuck his arm in the window during the night, Eric startled him and he ran
10.23.04 - caught bus to Puebla, lunch and afternoon with the Arnold Derstine Family, played soccer at church in the evening, ice cream back at the Derstines, to the Mendez's house for the night
10.24.04 - Church at Maranatha, we shared a little about our trip and were prayed for. Lunch at an Italian place, spent the afternoon with Juan and Araceli downtown, ran into the Jimmy Carter volunteer party, stopped into the Derstines, back the the Mendez's, played Settler's of Katan
10.25.04 - After a good night's sleep, we got up and spent the morning catching up on writing and the website. Left mid-afternoon for Rio Frio and climbed mountain until dark. Ate ramen/soup/tuna. Slept outside under bright moon with view of the Ixta.
10.26.04 - Packed up campsite and headed towards summit. Caught glimpse of another peak, which we thought was higher and decided to climb it. Summit around noon, walked back to Rio Frio via beautiful winding road. Back in town, ate lunch, caught bus back to Puebla. Relaxed for a while, worked on presentation for chapel
10.27.04 - We gave a 30 minute chapel presentation to the Puebla Christian School on the theme of calling, were guest speakers at a class on the Middle East, and then headed out to Cholula to see the pyramid with the church, festival for the virgin in progress when we got there. We bought flowers for Aracelli, went to their house and packed up, and went to the Derstines for lunch (Alberto & Luz and a few others were present). Spent the afternoon with the Derstine family, taco dinner out with Juan & Aracelli, caught a 9:50 bus to Puerto Esccondito
10.28.04 - Arrived in Puerto Escondito around 1pm, got spaghetti at a restaurant, caught a bus to Roca Blanca, settled in, relaxed on the beach for a couple of hours, swam, some photography, watched the sunset, dinner, internet work
10.29.04 - Woke up feeling sweaty and hot. Helped out with draining the fish ponds and catching fish. Got to know some of the workers on the base, got a ride with them in to Puerto Escondido. Internet, looked for lighthouse, dinner, got on bus for San Christobal.
10.30.04 - Arrived in San Christobal in early morning, having not slept well because of roads and frigid AC on the bus. Found a hostel with lots of international travelers, staying with roommate Nicole from Canada. In the afternoon explored several churches, the market area, and bought food for a meal back at the hostal. Spent the evening writing, hanging out with people.
10.31.04 - AM went to town of Chamula with Mia, Victoria, and Mike. Visited the Shamanic local church, explored market, and climbed hill overlooking village. Shopped for dinner, returned to hostel and cooked it up. Very spicy and crunchy beans. Hung out at hostel, visited church on hill, and walked through town to bus station. Overnight bus to Tapachula.
11.1.04 - Arrived early AM in Tapachula, took combi to Ciudad Hidalgo. Crossed into Guatemala
